Riding a bicycle is a two sided thing. It is a workout on one hand and pleasurable on the other. Cycling for beginners can be challenging or defeating. It depends on the riders intentions when they begin there affair with bicycle riding. It can be for the exercise, daily transportation, enjoyment or all three wrapped up into one.
When we enjoy anything that we do, it keeps us coming back for more. So when we enjoy riding for any reason, it becomes pleasure riding. Now we like the exercise, the trip to and from work, to the store or just wanting to ride outside to enjoy the sights.
It doesn’t have to have to stop with just riding alone. There are many people who enjoy riding with others as a group ride. With a little planning you can find yourself involved in different fun riding events. It just might be with your family which is not only fun but a plus.
“NOTHING COMPARES TO THE SIMPLE PLEASURE OF RIDING A BIKE.” – JOHN F. KENNEDY
These days many cities have established bike paths that allows you to capture some very beautiful sites. A lot of them lead to Botanical Gardens, Picnic Areas, Lakes, Parks with Riding Trails, Museums and many Historical Landmarks. With all these wonderful things how could a bike ride be defeating? Keep on Pedaling!
hey I’m happy I found this post because I also enjoy riding. However I live in Calgary Canada so unfortunately this is only possible a couple months out of the year but definitely nice to get out and do it. Makes you feel good physically and mentally! What bike do you ride? and do you prefer city riding or on trails?
I ride a Mongoose Mountain bike which is a Wal-Mart brand. I was told the Mongoose brand was real popular years ago and Wal-Mart bought the rights. I ride to commute to and from work and I like city riding. Thanks for asking and looking at my page.
I used to love riding my bicycle, especially when I was a kid. Besides getting exercise, I could ride some scenic routes including close to the beach. Unfortunately, when I started having lower back pain, I had to stop riding. I hope that there are a lot of people out there enjoying bike riding like I did.
Pleasure riding brings me back to when I was a kid and rode my bike around everywhere. Throughout the neighborhood, through the woods, and anywhere else that I could take my bike. I had an awesome time doing that! Now it’s a rare occasion if I get a chance to take my bike out at all. But I do miss this greatly.
You would be amazed at how it will still thrill you even now. Try riding it when you go to the store or something on the weekends. Or plan to ride to a park with riding trails or lake even if there is one in your town. I decided to use my bike to commute to and from work and it just became contagious for me. LOL. It is fun & good for your health.
Great article, I love riding my bike.
Like you said it is a great workout as well as pleasureful.
One of the reason I like to ride my bike is it is easier on my knees. I have had two surgeries on my right knee so this is a great low impact workout for me.
Thank you Jeremy. That is a great that you did not let a minor set back take you away from bike riding. I too love it because it easy on my joints. I am 57 years old now and I still put in 7 to 10 miles 5 days a week. When I was younger I use to like to run. But time has a way of making you have to adjust. Thanks for sharing that. People need to know that you don’t have to stop riding because you have a surgery or injury. Cycling is a way you can keep the cardio workouts going and staying in shape part of your routine.
I’m 63, and I still remember the first bike that I had as a child and the sense of freedom and pleasure it gave me. Driving a car is fine, but it can’t compare to the feel of the wind on your face and the fun of a bike. I find it to be a great stress reducer. If I get a little exercise in the bargain that’s a bonus, not the main focus.
Absolutely. And it keeps you feeling great as well. But it does let you free your mind from things that may be stressful. I use to stop in a park and just think about the past and those kinds of things. Sometimes get to talk with a stranger while I break as well which usually was a pleasant change from the norm.
